Champion’s Night. A beautiful gala designed to honor those who contribute heavily to the growth of our Pathfinders and Vision Builders Mission – and a night where I had thoughts of “I don’t belong here. I didn’t earn this.” swirling in my head throughout the whole evening.
Have you ever been there? There’s part of you that very much resonates with the experience, and then a conflicting part of you that says “Nope. No. No way. No how. This ain’t you. You haven’t done enough to be here. You don’t deserve this.” Ugh. Those whispers. Those LIES. They’re so icky-feeling, and oh so real.
Even after years of working on myself, and knowing my worth in Christ, I still have those feelings crop up sometimes. And I’d like to share with you what I’ve done to overcome them (side note: feelings are meant to be overcome, they’re not meant to overcome you) ?
First things first – I have incredible friends who help remind me if those feelings/thoughts start to take over. They help snap me back into shape!
Secondly – I take time to remind myself of what God has to say about me. As my Creator, He’s the only one who can determine my worth and value, and…
?He says that I’m His masterpiece (Ephesians 2:10).
?He says I am always and dearly loved by God (Colossians 3:12)
?He says I will be the visible display of the infinite riches of His grace and kindness (Ephesians 2:7)
?He says I am His friend (John 15:15)
?He says before I was even born He set me apart and appointed me (Jeremiah 1:5)
Now, these may not all convince you of your worth, but these are merely a glimpse of what God says about YOU (and me) in His word. He’s got plans for YOU, girlfriend!! And reading these verses (aka HIS PROMISES) out loud can really help shift perspective and remind you that you’re worthy to be in any room He puts you in (even if your pesky feelings haven’t caught up to that truth yet).
And finally, I dress the part! I’m not gonna lie, having this ball gown on certainly helped me step into this fancy evening, with a bunch of big players, and hold my own. And in case you’re wondering, I got it on Amazon (https://amzn.to/34AUGhW) of all places. I tried a few different ones, and this was the winner. It’s comfortable (stretchy and soft), it stayed put, and it was nice and long so I could enjoy heels with it! Definitely a wear again!!
