Let’s talk OCD for a second, shall we?
.
If you’re looking at this picture and didn’t have any sort of “ah – those don’t match” or “the pile is sort of lopsided” thoughts, then keep on scrollin’ – this ain’t for you
.
If you immediately picked up on the mismatched sizes, and the fact that they’re NOT color coordinated () then keep reading!
.
I HAD TO TRAIN MYSELF (intentionally) to stop color-coordinating, and organizing these by size. It was wasting so. much. precious. time.
.
As I was folding laundry today, I realized that this is the sort of thing that used to literally waste so much of my valuable time, and now I can breeze through it BECAUSE I WAS WILLING TO GET UNCOMFORTABLE and totally interrupt (and purposefully change) my habits.
.
It bugged me at first, because (if you’ve ever been to my home, you know…) I like things to be orderly.
Books = color-coordinated
Shoes = color-coordinated
Closet = color-coordinated
Labels in my cupboards/fridge = facing forward so it’s easy to find what I’m looking for
.
You may be thinking “okay, wait though – those all sound very OCD-esque” and you’re not wrong that they *sound* like that. But here’s why they’re different, and why I continue doing them, but stopped fretting over my washcloths…
.
It’s because I see those things each day, and their color-coding actually serves a functional purpose beyond “looks” (though I do believe in aesthetically pleasing surroundings)! Washcloths folded in a dark cupboard that I never look at definitely don’t need to be organized so attentively.
.
Once you start to realize what’s important to you (for me, time freedom is a big one), you start seeing things differently You start seeking ways to create more of what you enjoy, and you stop doing things that get in your way.
.
And what’s cool is, one day you’ll be able to notice something as simple as folding washcloths, and realize what it represents, and how far you’ve come
.
Next stop, delegating my laundry out
.
What is your “washcloth opportunity” here? Something you know you’re wasting valuable time on that you want to stop…this is your invitation to START stopping right now
