You know you want help, but you’re not sure where to start. Sound familiar? If you are trying to figure out how to ask for help? then this post is for you. I struggled with asking for help for a long time, so believe me, I GET IT!!
.
Often times discouraged by one of the following beliefs, I would stop before I even started, because:
*no one would understand
*who would even want to help me
*I don’t want people to see me as weak/incapable
*it’s not worth asking for help (it probably won’t work out anyway)
*I should be able to figure this out on my own
*I don’t want to hassle them/be a burden
.
~How do you ask for help if you don’t know what you need help with?
~How do you ask for help when people who might see your ask may think differently of you, knowing that you need support in that area?
~How do you ask for help when you’re not sure if you currently have anyone in your life who could help you?
~How do you ask for help when you’re not sure if you’re ready to implement the suggestions given to you?
~How do you ask for help if you feel like you’re wasting someone’s time?
~How do you ask for help if you think that the answer might terrify you?
.
You simply START WITH WHAT YOU HAVE. START WITH WHO YOU KNOW. Even if they aren’t the person who will be helping you directly, your first request could be asking them who they know. Who do they know who could answer your question? Who do they know who’s in your industry? Who do they know who’s overcome the obstacle you’re facing?
.
And, when all else fails and/or you’re really feeling lost, you can simply ask for prayer if you aren’t sure what to ask. Reach out and ASK! It will be worth it!
.
Two quick side notes…
(1) It DOES get easier the more you do it, so start strengthening that muscle.
(2) It is NOT a weakness to ask for help. In fact, it’s a strength.
.
Not asking is simply your pride or stubbornness getting in the way, and as someone who’s let both of those things lead me at times, I can say – they’re both TERRIBLE leaders. Take the reins back and ASK!
