8 years ago I drove into San Diego with a car full of possessions, my sweet mama who joined me for my travels down the coast, and my precious cat, Cashmere 🐈

I honestly didn’t know what I was stepping into.

I didn’t know the friendships that would start.

I didn’t know the community that would form.

I didn’t know the immense delight I’d experience due to the weather.

I didn’t know how I was going to make ends meet at times.

I didn’t know how to process certain disappointments that tried to linger.

I didn’t know what life without my family nearby would look like.

I didn’t know how drastically different (and better) life can be when you truly let people in.

I didn’t know where I was going to live or how long I’d be in that unknown.

I didn’t know the depths of healing that was available.

I didn’t know I needed the amount of healing I’ve received.

I didn’t know a lot of things.

But I knew that I was prompted to move here, and that, for the first time in my life, I was moving to start something, and not moving to run from something.

8 years in, and I still am not 100% sure exactly what all has been started, but I know that I’m meant to thrive here and invite others along for the ride!

It wasn’t too long after I moved that I visited my church for the first time, and I attribute a massive amount of the growth and healing I’ve experienced to what God did (and continues to do) through the people I’ve met there.

I’ve had the privilege of sitting under absolute world class leadership (humble, honorable, fun, loving, genuine, forward-moving, God-focused, and the list goes on…) with pastors who exemplify so many qualities I admire. Pastors who constantly seek God first – living out the beauty, excitement, and joy of the gospel – and invite others along for the ride.

I go to our Awaken Balboa campus, but we’ve got locations all over San Diego (and Seattle, Boise, and Salt Lake City, too).

It didn’t take 8 years for all of the growth and healing to take place, but a massive amount of growth and healing has happened in that time, with more to come.
